Dose:
- Adults:
- IV/IM 1-2 grams given once a day (or in two equally divided doses given BD) depending on severity
- Children:
- IV/IM 50-75mg/kg divided BD. Max 2g/day
- IV/IM 50-75mg/kg divided BD. Max 2g/day
- Meningitis:
- Adults: IV/IM 100mg/kg OD or divided BD
- Max 4g
- Skin and skin structure infections:
- Children: IV/IM 50-75mg/kg OD or divided BD
- Max daily dose should not exceed 1g
- Acute bacterial otitis media:
- Children: IM 50mg/kg *1
- Max: 1g
- Injection:
- 1000mg/500mg
- 500mg/250mg
- Ceftriaxone 1g is equivalent to Ceftriaxone and Sulbactam 1.5g. Dosages indicated are in terms of ceftriaxone
Ceftriaxone: 3rd generation cephalosporin with broad-spectrum gram-negative activity. Inhibits cell-wall synthesis by binding to 1 or more penicillin-binding proteins thus bactericidal.
Sulbactam: An irreversible inhibitor by covalently binding to β-lactamases, and prevents the enzyme hydrolysis of beta lactams
