• Oral care: Gingivitis, plaque control
     → 0.12–0.2% rinse, 15 mL for 30 seconds, twice daily
  • Topical use: Pre-op skin prep, wound care
     → Apply 2–4% solution to clean skin
  • Surgical scrub:
     → 4% solution for hand and skin antisepsis
  • Catheter/line care:
     → 2% chlorhexidine in 70% isopropyl alcohol
  • Oral rinse: 0.12% or 0.2%
  • Topical: 2% or 4%
  • Alcohol-based: 2% in 70% alcohol
  • Use after brushing (wait 30 mins post-toothpaste for oral rinse)
  • Do not swallow oral rinse
  • Let skin dry fully before procedures
  • Avoid eyes, ears, meninges
  • Antiseptic: Disrupts microbial cell membranes
  • Effective against bacteria, some fungi and viruses
  • Prolonged action due to tissue binding (up to 12 hours)
  • Staining of teeth/tongue (oral use)
  • Taste alteration
  • Skin irritation, rash
  • Rare: Allergic reactions, anaphylaxis
