- Type 2 DM:
- Based on the patient’s current regimen of individual agents
Tablet:
- 2mg/ 500mg/ 15mg
- 4mg/ 500mg/ 15mg
- Take with meals to minimise GI side effects from metformin and reduce the risk of hypoglycemia.
- Avoid excessive alcohol consumption, as it can increase the risk of lactic acidosis (from metformin).
- Glimepiride (Sulfonylurea): It stimulates pancreatic beta cells to release insulin, lowering blood glucose levels.
- Metformin (Biguanide): It decreases hepatic glucose production, reduces intestinal glucose absorption, and improves insulin sensitivity.
- Pioglitazone (Thiazolidinedione): It enhances insulin sensitivity by activating PPARγ receptors in fat and muscle tissue, increasing glucose uptake.
- Hypoglycemia
- Dizziness
- Headache
- GI disturbances (nausea, diarrhoea)
- Metallic taste
- Risk of lactic acidosis
- Edema
- Weight gain
- Severe renal impairment
- Heart failure (NYHA Class III/IV)
- Known hypersensitivity to components
- Diabetic ketoacidosis
- Type 1 diabetes mellitus
- Gemfibrozil
- Alcohol
