- Multibacillary leprosy:
- PO 100mg and clofazimine 50mg OD *12 months + rifampicin 600mg and clofazimine 300mg once a month
- < 35kg: PO 50mg daily and reduced rifampicin as well
- Paucibacillary leprosy:
- PO 100mg OD and rifampicin 600mg once a month
- Reduced dosages in low weight patients
- Dermatitis herpetiformis:
- PO 50mg OD
- PO 50mg OD
- Treatment of mild to moderate Pneumocystis jirovecii (Pneumocystis carinii) pneumonia (in combination with trimethoprim)
- PO 100 mg once daily
Tablet: 100mg
- May be treated for longer periods if not responsive within the first 6 or 12 months
Sulfone
It competes with para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA), inhibiting folic acid synthesis. It is bactericidal and bacteriostatic against Mycobacterium leprae
